The show, which chronicles Dwayne Johnson/The Rock’s life as he fictionally runs as a candidate in the 2032 United States presidential election, has seen the likes of Vince McMahon, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage and others portrayed expertly in early stages of his life. However, Becky might have topped them all in her role as the 1980s pop icon.
What was Cyndi Lauper’s role with WWE and WrestleMania?
For those unaware of Lauper’s role and history with WWE, she acted as a manager for the legendary Captain Lou Albano at the very first WrestleMania, bringing a sense of showbiz and celebrity to the event alongside Muhammed Ali and Mr. T amongst others. This provides the backdrop to the episode, as Vince McMahon celebrates the enormous success of the show now world famous and nearing its 40th anniversary. He then introduces two of the stars of the show, the WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and the incomparable “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” hitmaker.
Take a look at the clip below to see the brilliance of Becky – it truly is amazing how she lost her thick Dublin accent to master the pop icon’s distinctive Queens, New York voice. Becky credited vocal coach, Courtney Young, for this in a Twitter shout out. The red hair and her general swagger add further likeness to the portrayal. Her performance went down incredibly well with fans, producers NBC and of course, The Rock. The two shared several exchanges on Twitter, both grateful for the other. Becky also took to Instagram prior to the episode, expressing her delight at playing the role. “Playing someone as groundbreaking and influential, not only in the music industry but as a feminist and someone who was instrumental in bringing wrestling into the mainstream, was both challenging and immensely fun and I can’t wait for you all to see it!”
It is quite remarkable that prior to this, Becky’s acting career consisted of playing herself in Billions, Ridiculousness and Game On!, starring in the WWE produced “The Marine” series and being a stunt double on Vikings. It now seems likely that “The Man” will follow The Great One into the world of Hollywood, with offers certain to come her way in light of her star moment. Herself and Sasha Banks are fast becoming the company’s most marketable figures, a testament to both and the women’s revolution at large.
What’s next for Becky in WWE?
But first she has business to take care of in WWE. Lynch is scheduled to return in early 2023 and is an early favourite to win the Royal Rumble. After being injured at Summerslam in a Raw Women’s Title loss to Bianca Belair, she reverted back to her much beloved babyface character. Expect to see Becky starring in both WrestleMania main events and Hollywood blockbusters in the coming years.
