Katie Maloney and Lala Kent of Vanderpump Rules have confirmed rumors about a rift in their friendship. The two Utah natives got off on the wrong foot, and spent years embroiled in a nasty feud. But they eventually made peace, and surprisingly went on to become super close friends. Katie was even the one who told Lala about Randal Emmett’s infidelity. A few months back, Lala gushed about how much fun they were having as newly single ladies. However, those days appear to be over.
Vanderpump Rules’ Katie Maloney and Lala addressed the status of their friendship on their respective podcasts. Answering fan questions on the January 13 episode of You’re Gonna Love Me, Katie admitted, “vibes are definitely off.” Responding on the January 18 episode of Give Them Lala, her frenemy revealed she got a ton of questions about Katie’s comments, adding, “So I guess the vibes are definitely off.”
Lala’s co-host asked if she was surprised by this, and she answered, “after the DMs I got from her the other day, not so much.” She revealed the messages came after she failed to wish Katie a happy birthday. Seemingly referring to the many allegations against Randall, Lala explained, “I got a lot going on. That is the least of my concern. And I hope she had a very happy birthday.” The actress also said she forgot since it was Martin Luther King Day, and because her daughter Ocean was sick.
Vanderpump Rules Fans Speculate Cause Of Katie & Lala’s Rift
Once the rift was confirmed, members of the Vanderpump Rules Reddit page started speculating causes of the feud. Some didn’t believe they were ever really friends. Others brought up Lala’s closeness with Scheana Shay and Brock Davies, who egged on Tom Schwartz’s fling with Raquel Leviss. User Hefty_Ad_3192 wrote, “as we know, Katie does not let her friends be friends with people she doesn’t like.”
However, this new friendship had its doubts after Lala’s comments about Brock’s past on Vanderpump Rules season 9. As alley_underland wrote, “Lala is sucking up to Scheana because everyone has been roasting her for last season. She exposed Brock when her man was doing way worse.” On a positive note, some expressed excitement about Katie’s friendship with business partner Ariana Madix, saying it appears healthy and real.
Ironically, back in Vanderpump Rules season 5, Katie had a rift with Scheana after the latter befriended Lala, and the recent DMs also echo her past actions. She became known as “Tequila Katie” for sending nasty, long-winded text messages, often while under the influence. This habit was another reason Katie’s friendship with Scheana ended. Katie has also been known to have a temper, which led to many fights with her now-ex-husband. But while the DMs indicate she is falling back into old patterns, Katie’s sandwich shop with Ariana shows growth.
Viewers won’t have to wait too long to see these new phases of Katie and Lala’s lives, as Vanderpump Rules will return for season 10 on February 8. When filming began, the two were still publicly gushing over their supportive friendship. The recent trailer also showed them celebrating being single and going out on the town. Amidst the fun, both women will also be dealing with the fallout of their breakups. It’s unclear if Katie and Lala’s rift in their friendship will also be shown in the upcoming season.
