Space Cadet’s ensemble is ready to take flight. Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper is one the stars just announced to be joining American Horror Story’s Emma Roberts in new comedy Space Cadet. Variety reports that the film has added Hopper, 10 Things I Hate About You’s Gabrielle Union, Colombian pop star Sebastián Yatra, A Bug’s Life’s David Foley, and The Daily Show’s Desi Lydic to its cast.
The film stars Roberts as a Florida party girl, who gets involved in a NASA training programme, and while she may not have the expertise of the other candidates, her heart and smartness in other ways may make her NASA’s only hope. Production is set to start next week, with Liz W Garcia directing from a script that she herself has written. Amazon Prime Video is set to distribute the film internationally.
Emma’s incredible wit and comedic timing perfectly embodies the role of Rex, and Liz’s rendering of this character makes the female take-over of the STEM field so uniquely relatable and fun, and we hope it inspires young women interested in the field, producer Jon Berg said previously. The space race continues to intrigue all of us globally, so we have no doubt viewers far and wide will connect with this amazing female-driven narrative.
Meanwhile, Roberts has also been cast opposite Fifty Shades of Grey and Bad Times at the El Royale star Dakota Johnson in Madame Web, which is part of Sony’s shared universe of Spider Man characters Johnson will be playing the titular character, a life support system-bound woman with physic powers, but every other actor’s role is currently unknown.
