The Umbrella Academy cast in season 3 picked up where season 2 left off. Based on the comic by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy season 3 saw the titular characters returning to the present from the 1960s to discover they have been replaced by the Sparrow Academy, a group of seven children with powers Reginald adopted to train. The Umbrella Academy season 3 introduces a plethora of new characters, though it makes sure not to neglect the main characters. The cast has always been an ensemble and the additional characters have added new dimensions to the Hargreeves.
This family is constantly faced with different and unique challenges on account of their being born with powers and adopted by a man who didn’t show them any affection. Season 3 sees the Umbrella Academy dealing with the repercussions of what occurred in the 1960s, with their actions creating a new timeline that effectively rewrote their previous lives. In the new timeline, the Sparrow Academy took their place with seven new members. Here is a full guide to The Umbrella Academy cast, which characters they play in the Netflix series, and in what other TV shows and movies they have been in.
Tom Hopper As Luther Hargreeves
Luther in The Umbrella Academy.
Luther Hargreeves (aka, Number One) is one of seven siblings adopted by Reginald Hargreeves. Sent to the moon by his father for four years, Luther is eventually given a serum that gives ape-like traits. Unlike the rest of his siblings, Luther, who has super strength, doesn’t have a high opinion of his abilities and contributions to the Umbrella Academy after his mistreatment by Reginald. In season 3, Luther got a love story and finally found happiness for the first time in his life with Sparrow Academy member Sloane, who he married. However, Reginald killed him though he returned to the reset timeline and went to find Sloane.
Luther is portrayed in The Umbrella Academy cast by Tom Hopper, who is best known for his roles as Billy Bones in Black Sails, Sir Percival in Merlin, and as Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones. Most recently, he took on roles in the movie, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and the video game adaptation, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
David Castañeda As Diego Hargreeves

Diego Hargreeves (aka, Number Two) is also one of the 43 children born to women under mysterious circumstances. Unlike Luther, Diego is a bit hot-headed but cares deeply for their mother Grace, a robot created by Reginald. Diego is skilled at knife throwing and can manipulate any flying object while in the air and in fights. He spent much of the first three seasons repeatedly getting tested by Lila, and by the end of season 3, he got a happy ending. Lila was pregnant with his child, and they left to be together.
Diego is portrayed in The Umbrella Academy cast by David Castañeda, who is best known for his roles in Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Switched at Birth, and Standing Up, Falling Down. In 2023, he joined the main cast of the Roku original series, The Most Dangerous Game.
Emmy Raver-Lampman As Allison Hargreeves
Allison in the house in The Umbrella Academy.
Allison Hargreeves (aka, Number Three) is one of the children adopted by Reginald Hargreeves. She ultimately left the Umbrella Academy behind to become an actress. Allison goes on to have a daughter named Claire and has the power to manipulate people’s actions by telling them she “heard a rumor.” Allison is forced to leave her husband Ray behind in the 1960s after the Umbrella Academy time travels back to the present day. This led to Allison becoming bitter and resentful, which turned her into an antagonistic character, but by the end of the season, she got her biggest wish – she was reunited with her husband and daughter.
Allison is portrayed in The Umbrella Academy cast by Emmy Raver-Lampman, who is best known for her role in the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, where she was originally a member of the ensemble before touring with the show as Angelica Schuyler. The actress has also been in the Liam Neeson film Blacklight and lends her voice to Apple TV+’s Central Park.
Robert Sheehan As Klaus Hargreeves
Klaus leading his cult in The Umbrella Academy.
Klaus Hargreeves (aka, Number Four) is one of the seven siblings adopted by Reginald. He is traumatized by his powers, which allow him to communicate with the dead, including his deceased brother Ben. During his time in the 1960s, Klaus had his own cult before reuniting with his siblings to save the world again and return to the present. In the third season, Klaus realized he could do more than just talk to the dead. He was basically immortal and Klaus had died 56 times, finally mastering returning to life. However, by the end of the season, he appeared to lose that power once and for all.
Klaus is played in The Umbrella Academy cast by Robert Sheehan, who is best known for his roles in Misfits, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and the series Fortitude. In 2022, he also starred in the Netflix original sci-fi series The Last Bus.
Aidan Gallagher As Five

Five (who is the person in The Umbrella Academy cast who doesn’t have an official name) is one of 43 children born to women who suddenly and mysteriously became pregnant. As a teen, Five traveled to the future for the first time and was unable to return to the present. He eventually began working for the Commission, an organization tasked with maintaining the timeline, for years before he was able to return to his siblings in a bid to stop the apocalypse from happening. Five can teleport and time travel.
By the third season, Five realized that his time traveling had given him some grave information. He learned that he was the man who created the Commission and he ended up meeting his older self in the future. Right before his older self died, he said “don’t save the world.” He is portrayed by Aidan Gallagher, who is best known for his role in the TV series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.
Justin H. Min As Ben Hargreeves

Ben Hargreeves (aka, Number Six) is the brother to Five, Klaus, Allison, Luther, Diego, and Viktor in The Umbrella Academy cast. However, Ben died when they were all kids, which greatly affected the Umbrella Academy’s relationship with each other. While Ben is dead in the original timeline, Klaus is the only one who can see him because he can speak to the deceased. In The Umbrella Academy season 3, Ben was alive in the altered timeline and a member of the Sparrow Academy. He has the ability to use and control tentacles that come from another dimension and protrude from his abdomen.
By the end of season 3, all the Sparrow Academy members appeared to have died, except Sloane, who was missing, and Ben. While Ben died in the original timeline, he survived here and was seen in the post-credits riding a train in South Korea. Ben is portrayed by Justin H. Min, who is best known for his roles in the indie film After Yang, Dating After College, and The Better Half. In 2023, Min had a recurring role in the critically-praised Netflix original series, Beef, starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong.

Viktor Hargreeves (aka, Number Seven), who transitions in season 3, is the final sibling in The Umbrella Academy cast. Thought to not have any powers growing up, Viktor was later revealed to be behind the apocalypse because of his ability to manipulate sound and convert it to energy. His powers are linked to emotion, which is why Reginald thought them too unmanageable. Viktor previously felt alienated from his siblings but grew closer to them in season 2. After transitioning in season 3, Viktor had to face the truth that he was responsible for the death of all the Umbrella mothers by saving Harlan when he was a child.
Viktor is played by Elliot Page, who is best known for their roles in Flatliners, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Juno, and Inception. Other than The Umbrella Academy, Page has not appeared in much but does have a voice role in the upcoming animated sci-fi series Ark: The Animated Series.
