The Expendables Needs To Cast Female Action Icons Its Ridiculous Now

The Expendables is famous for casting action movie legends from multiple eras but after four movies it must start casting some female icons too.

The next Expendables movie needs to correct its biggest oversight and finally start adding female action icons to the series. After successfully reviving franchises like Rocky and Rambo in the late 2000s Sylvester Stallone created a new series for himself with The Expendables. Stallone starred in wrote and directed the 2010 original where he played mercenary team leader Barney Ross. The big selling point of the film is that it united him with other action movie legends including Jet Li Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham. The movie didnt receive great reviews but its success spawned a franchise.

Later Expendables movies added more genre heavyweights like Wesley Snipes JeanClaude Van Damme Scott Adkins and many more. The Stallone movie franchise was intended to fill a gap for viewers who wanted Rrated action movies in the same vein as the 80s or 90s but The Expendables 3s attempt to appeal to a PG13 market saw it disappoint both new and returning audiences. The third entry was a boxoffice letdown also so it took a while for the series to come back with the upcoming Expendables 4.

The Expendables 4 appears to be backing off the series formula by not focusing on casting actors primarily known for action with the likes of Megan Fox and Andy Garcia joining in major roles that said Tony Jaa and The Raids Iko Uwais are also part of the sequel. Assuming theres another Expendables movie after the fourth entry the franchise needs to finally cast some female action icons too. Over the years names like Sigourney Weaver and Milla Jovovich who played Alice in Resident Evil have been linked to parts in the series which didnt ultimately happen. There was once talk of an allfemale spinoff dubbed The Expendabelles too which had names like Jovovich Cameron Diaz and even Meryl Streep linked to it.

The Expendabelles appears to have been quietly canceled as little has been heard about it since 2014. The development of the latter film might be one reason the main entries neglected to add any female action stars as they wanted an allstar team to compete with the Stallone entires. However four movies in the lack of fanfavorite names like Michelle Yeoh Zoe Saldana Uma Thurman Michelle Rodriguez and countless others becoming part of the series feels strange at best and ridiculous at worst.

Previous Expendables movies have featured female team members played by Yu Nan and Ronda Rousey while Megan Foxs who has made several horror movies too character appears to be joining the group for the fourth entry. The series can and should be doing better however and adding some iconic female characters could change up the dynamic of the series which felt stale after the third movie. Theres no shortage of great actors to choose from be it Katee Sackhoff Maggie Q or Cynthia Rothrock so Expendables 5 needs to finally break this strange partition.
