Shawn Mendes shows off his buzzcut while rocking all-black outfit during a solo stroll in West Hollywood

Shawn Mendes was pictured while stepping out in West Hollywood on Friday morning. The 24-year-old singer donned a nearly all-black ensemble while taking a short stroll along the celebrity-favorite city’s shade-lined sidewalks. The performer’s outing took place just weeks after he debuted his new buzzcut, which shocked many of his longtime fans who were used to seeing him with his previously lengthy hair. Mendes wore a long-sleeve shirt, a set of athletic shorts and slip-on shoes while stepping out. The performer’s most recent single, When You’re Gone, was previously released to the public in March of last year. The track was met with a positive reception from critics and fans alike, and a music video for the song debuted that same month. When You’re Gone eventually peaked at the number 38 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Mendes spoke about working on the song during an interview with Grammy.com, where he expressed that he wrote the track with the intent of it being interpreted differently by each listener. ‘I want people to think about what [When You’re Gone] means, and think about how it affects them, and how it relates to them,’ he said. The performer went on to state that he was constantly trying to improve as a songwriter, and that his drive as an artist partially came from the positive reception to one of his popular singles, In My Blood.

‘Every single song [I’ve written] after that one, the number one rule is, this has to be true. This has to be real. This has to be authentic,’ he said. When asked if the single’s release indicated that he was working on a new album, he expressed that When You’re Gone was ‘just a song that I really loved, so I decided it’s time to put it out.’ Mendes’ most recently released full-length record, Wonder, debuted in 2020. The record was met with a generally positive reception from critics and was supported by a world tour.

However, the singer canceled the run of shows after completing just seven performances, citing concerns about his mental health as the reason for the sudden stoppage. Mendes has since shared several photos and videos of him participating in recording sessions, lending rise to rumors about potential future releases. Last October, the singer-songwriter was seen playing guitar and discussing ideas with collaborators in a trio of shots that were shared to his Instagram account.
