Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley breaks silence on return

Pirates of the Caribbean fans have long been waiting for news about the next Disney swashbuckling adventure, and if it will be hitting the big screen. Everything ground to a half after Johnny Depp was dropped from the series by Disney when he was accused of domestic abuse by his ex-wife, Amber Heard. With no real news on the horizon, the actors have continued to work on new projects, including Keira Knightley, who just starred in the movie The Boston Strangler. However, she has now revealed the Pirates series is firmly not in her sights. The Disney+ free trial is no longer available in 2023, but luckily it is still possible to watch everything on the streaming service without paying for a subscription. Knightley was recently cornered by ET Online and quizzed on if she’ll be returning to the series in the near future.

Without skipping a beat, the 38-year-old asked: “What about Elizabeth Swan?” She added: “I mean, she sailed away so nicely. She sailed away in brilliant style.” The British actress then neglected to say another word about her character – so this may mean she has no intention of ever coming back to the Disney series. However, she happily delved into talking about working on such a popular franchise at a young age.”It sort of launched me out of a rocket, really,” Knightley said. “As far as my career went. That year [2002] was Bend It Like Beckham, Love Actually and Pirates of the Caribbean.” She added: “So, I’m being asked about all three. Unfortunately, I was 16 and 17. So I don’t really remember very much of it, but yes, it certainly was a very big year for me.” While Knightley was reluctant to commit to rejoining the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Orlando Bloom recently confessed he’d be “interested” in returning as Will Turner in the near future.

Bloom was quizzed about a Pirates comeback while promoting his Amazon Prime Video series Carnival Row. He explained: “Oh gosh, you know, I did get to go back and play [the Lord of the Rings character] Legolas in The Hobbit, which was ten years later. I was like: ‘This is a lot of fun!’ Because he’s such a great space to be in. “And I think Will [Turner]—I mean Will’s so great. I wouldn’t mind seeing what Will looked like today in some ways, because he was such this earnest guy, but after rumbling around the bottom of the ocean for as long as he would have done at this point, it’d be interesting to see how he surfaces and what he’s like.
