Outlander Finally Sets Up Claire & Jamie’s Impending House Fire

The big house fire at Claire and Jamies homestead is finally coming the first sign appearing in the final moments of Outlander season 6 episode 5. Based on Diana Gabaldons best selling Outlander books the Starz series current season brings to screen her sixth book A Breath of Snow and Ashes in which the home that Claire and Jamie have built together on Frasers Ridge goes up in flames. The event is far more than a fire however and will have a major effect on numerous storylines in Outlander.Fans of the series will remember Rogers discovery of the fire in Outlander season 4 when Mrs. Graham reveals a newspaper clipping about the fire to him while he is still living in the 1970s. The article an obituary that claims that Claire and Jamie Sam Heughan die in the fire has its date smudged leaving the occurrence of the event a mystery. Soon after Mrs. Graham shows Roger Richard Rankin the article Roger receives a letter from Brianna saying that she has become aware of something bad that is going to happen to her parents and that she must warn them. And thus begins Brees journey to the past time traveling through the stones to save her parents followed shortly thereafter by Roger.

Having successfully traveled back through time and warned her parents Brianna Sophie Skelton and Roger come to settle on Frasers Ridge with Claire and Jamie the years slowly creeping into the smudged period seen from the obituary. Meanwhile in Outlander season 5 Claire Caitriona Balfe met another time traveler Wendigo Donner Brennan Martin when she was kidnapped by Lionel Browns men. Claire desperately trying to form an alliance to buy her freedom told Wendigo he needs gemstones to travel through time that she has one and that shell give it to him if hell free her. Wendigo disappeared before Claires brutal attack in Outlander season 5s finale but his dramatic return as the prisoner in the final moments of Outlander season 6 episode 5 signal the fire is not long to come.

Though the Starz series has Wendigos appearance linked to Claire readers of Gabaldons A Breath of Snow and Ashes are first introduced to the character by his interaction with Brianna at River Run. In the book Wendigo whistles The Beatles Yellow Submarine to get her attention and she is the one to tell him of his need for a gemstone. While Wendigos storyline has been slightly modified so far his whistling of Colonel Bogey March in Outlander season 6 episode 5 no doubt is a sign that his storyline is quickly coming to fruition. Soon if the series stays true to the book Wendigo will break into Claire and Jamies house in search of a gemstone accidentally knocking over Claires ether which is set ablaze when Ian lights one of Briannas matches and he will die in the flames.

While the fire serves as an end to the mystery of Wendigo Donner it also brings to a close a major part of Briannas story and leaves huge questions for viewers moving forward. Briannas purpose for returning to the past will soon be concluded as she will know her parents survive the fire. How this closure will affect her character promises huge changes in the near future. Furthermore the fire sees all of the hard work begun in season 5 and continued in Outlander season 6 by Claire and Jamie go up in flames their home destroyed. While readers of Gabaldons series may know what comes Starz fans will likely be left wondering how Jamie and Claires obituary was found in the 1970s if they survive the fire and what their mysterious disappearance could mean for the future of Outlander.
