Johnny Depp cited Amber Heards casting in Aquaman as a rebuttal against claims that he did not want her taking film meetings during their marriage. In court on Monday Johnny Depp used Amber Heards 2016 casting as Mera in Zack Snyders Justice League which led to her continuing the role in both Aquaman and the upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to dispel claims that the actor was so controlling in his marriage to Heard that he did not want her to take meetings.
Depp has been on the witness stand every day of the trial since April 19 testifying in a $50 million defamation trial that Depp brought about against his exwife Heard after an opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2018 alleged that the Pirates of the Caribbean star abused her during their brief marriage between 2015 and 2017. Heard then countersued Depp for defamation for $100 million. Initially in court Depp was asked questions by his own attorneys though more recently Heards lawyers have been crossexamining the actor. As reported by Unilad there was conflict on Monday over text messages that Heards lawyers believe show Depp to be overly controlling of his thenwife.
Heards lawyer read a text from Heard to Depp that said Im at a coffee meeting now will be home soon. The lawyer then read Depps response which was No goddamn meetings. No movies. Why Why do you deviate from our agreement What species of meeting F*** it. Just tell me when you get home.
Heards lawyer then asked Depp You didnt want her to take the meeting that she was taking that day correct It appears as though Heards lawyers plan to paint Depp as being controlling of his wife and her movie career. Depp though countered that allegation by stating that he did not mind that she was having a meeting he simply had a problem with her having a meeting when they had already made different plans that day. In an attempt to demonstrate that he had no problems with Heard taking film meetings Depp explained Its not about her doing films. How do you think she got Aquaman sir He noted [T]his is not necessarily an angry text its just why do you deviate from our agreement The initial rumors of Heard being cast as Mera in Justice League and Aquaman began circulating in January 2016 and were later confirmed in May 2016. Heard has yet to take the stand in the defamation trial. Depp and Heards battle in court follows a 2020 trial between Depp and the British tabloid The Sun. The actor was unable to prove libel against the newspaper after it used Heards statements about Depp to refer to him as a wifebeater in a headline.
