Lili Reinhart Says Riverdale Season 7 Will Probably Be the Last One

Wondering when The CWs hit Riverdale will wrap up its run. So are a lot of fans of the series, which is currently in its sixth season on the network. And during an Instagram Live last night November 30 before the show’s most recent episode Lili Reinhart who stars as Betty Cooper, commented on the possibility of when Riverdale might be ending.

I don’t know. We’re hoping for a season seven Reinhart said before confidentially whispering to the 28,000 people watching live And then that will prob probably be the last one.To be clear, this is not in any sense 100% confirmation that Riverdale is ending with Season 7 or that it will be picked up for a Season 7 by The CW. Though the network doesn’t hold to a rigorous schedule in terms of announcing pick-ups and cancellations, they did announce early renewals for most of their ongoing series back on February 3, in order to give the creative teams plenty of time to get ahead because of COVID production slowdowns. The previous year, pickups were announced even earlier, on January 7, 2020; and the year before that, on January 31.Point being, we don’t expect any official news about whether Riverdale will be continuing beyond Season 6 until some time next month. However, this does give a good indication where Reinhart’s head is at, and the creative team behind Riverdale seems very publicly open to feedback and collaboration with the cast meaning she’s probably not saying this out of nowhere.

And despite the lack of any official news, a seventh season of the Archie Comics based series does seem likely, based on previous comments from other stars. Though it wasn’t directly quoted, an interview with KJ Apa, who plays Archie Andrews, from March 13, 2020, noted that he had been contracted for the next three years. The confusing part about that statement is whether Apa actually said three seasons or three years or neither. But regardless of what the actual quote was, that would time out around seven seasons 2023 for his contract running out. And while these contracts are not publicly available sorry stalkers chances are most of the remaining Season 1 cast Apa, Reinhart, Camila Mendes Cole Sprouse, Casey Cott Madchen Amick and Madelaine Petsch signed similar deals.

Though other cast members, and even showrunner Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, have danced around the subject of a series finale in past interviews, preferring to talk instead about how they would like a good ending for their characters when the time comes, this is seemingly the first time someone involved in the show has outright commented on Riverdale ending. And to reemphasize though Lili Reinhart is a crucial part of the series, she is not a producer on the show. It isn’t out of the realm of possibility that if the creative team, Warner Bros. who does produce the show and The CW want to continue Riverdale to Season 8, or beyond, they could do so with or without the participation of the current main cast. And given that broadcast ratings for the series may have flagged significantly, but the show still performs well on streaming in its second week since premiering Season 5 on Netflix Riverdale ranked ninth on Nielsen’s list of most viewed acquired series it’s possible there may be blood in this stone yet. So will Riverdale end with Season 7 Or will it continue on forever That’s one mystery even Betty Cooper can’t solve. At least, not yet.
