Overall, the movie’s success can be attributed to the wide array of talents seen in A Boy Called Christmas.
Serving as an origin story for Father Christmas, A Boy Called Christmas follows a story within a story structure. As Aunt Ruth entertains the children left in her care, she tells a heartwarming tale of Nikolas, a 12 year old boy who lives in Finland. Searching for his father, Nikolas goes on an adventure into the fabled village Elfhelm. In his journey he befriends fascinating creatures and attains his purpose.Amidst Netflix’s holiday movie universe A Boy Called Christmas is a standalone film focusing on Nikolas transformation towards his destiny. The film discards the notion of Christmas as a religious celebration, and, instead, capitalizes on what the holiday’s pagan origins mean for people grieving and recovering.
