Ted Lasso Season 3 Begins Filming In January 2022

Actor Phil Dunster confirms that Ted Lasso season 3 will begin filming at the end of January 2022. The next season will bring the series to an end.

Actor Phil Dunster confirms that Ted Lasso season 3 will begin filming at the end of January 2022. Dunster portrays Jamie Tartt on the American sports comedy-drama series developed by Jason Sudeikis. Ted Lasso sees Tartt as a striker for AFC Richmond and top scorer for the club, which contributes to his high praise of himself and his great influence in the locker room at Nelson Road Stadium. After a short stint on the Lust Conquers All reality TV show, Jamie is forced to swallow his pride as his star power diminishes and his former teammates no longer cater to his bullying personality.

The first season of Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+ back in August of 2020 for a total of 10 episodes. Ted Lasso season 2 quickly followed behind, debuting in July 2021 for a total of 12 episodes. Both seasons has received near universal acclaim, with critics praising the performances, writing, and uplifting themes. The series would go on to earn 20 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, making it the most nominated freshman comedy in Emmy history. Season 1 currently holds a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while Season 2 holds a 98% approval rating. Owing to the show’s success both critically and commercially, Ted Lasso season 3 was renewed back in October of 2020, and it looks like the new season will being filming soon.

Variety reports that Dunster confirmed Ted Lasso season 3 will begin filming on January 31, 2022. Although, when asked about the upcoming storyline, Dunster wasn’t “trying to be coy” about the fact that he doesn’t “know anything.” Dunster further elaborates that the Apple TV series creators “like to keep it fresh” in terms of the story; however, show creator Sudeikis knows “what the story arc is.” According to the actor, Sudeikis and his creative team are “in the writers room now” for the next installment. View Dunster’s full quote about Ted Lasso season 3 below:

“Honestly, I’m not trying to be coy, but I don’t know anything. I think they like to keep it fresh. But also Jason [Sudeikis] knows what the story arc is. He sprinkles ideas of what’s going to come here and there but there’s nothing really specific. They’re in the writers room now and we’ll see what happens.”

Concerning the arc Dunster refers to above, Sudeikis and showrunner Bill Lawrence originally pitched Ted Lasso as a three season arc. This means that Ted Lasso season 3 could in fact be the final season of the series. During the initial planning stage of the show, Sudeikis and team carefully mapped out the characters’ beginning, middle and end stages in accordance to the three season plan. While the possibility of Ted Lasso season 4 is up in the air, with Sudeikis currently earning a whopping $1 million per episode, later installments would revolve around an entirely different story and set of characters.

Fans of the series can rest easy knowing that Ted Lasso season 3 is on its way. However, its a little bitter sweet as the third season could bring the show to an end. Nonetheless, riding on the critical acclaim of the previous two seasons, the next installment already has high expectations from fans, especially considering it serving as the final season. Because Sudeikis and his team has already planned the three season arc out, the upcoming season will surely meet those expectations.
