Riverdale Welcomes Sabrina Spellman with a Supernatural Season Trailer

The popular CW series introduced Sabrina Spellman from Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in a new trailer. Sabrina, played by Kiernan Shipka, will appear on Season 6 of Riverdale in a five-episode event that premieres on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Sabrina appears at the end of the trailer, clad in a long, red cloak, with Cheryl Blossom greeting her: “Look at what the black cat dragged in.”

The trailer also teased the more supernatural route Riverdale will be taking in its sixth season, which will also introduce the actual devil to its plotline. Not only that, but Jughead (Cole Sprouse) appears in the trailer, saying, “That’s jut how things role in Rivervale,” again teasing that the town has been mysteriously renamed as it was in a previous promo.

As for Sabrina, Warner Bros. TV confirmed Shipka’s appearance in the series earlier this month with a photo of the actor on the set of the CW show, with the caption, “looks like someone is making the road trip from Greendale to Riverdale.” Shipka will reprise her role from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which ran on Netflix for a total of 36 episodes across two seasons — split into four parts — from October 2018 to December 2020. Before the show’s cancellation, a fifth part was planned that would have featured a Riverdale crossover, but it never came to be.

Sabrina will appear in Riverdale Season 6, Episode 4, “The Witching Hour,” wherein Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) will perform a dangerous spell that could “mean the difference between life and death for a beloved member of the Blossom family,” according to the episode’s description, and she will need help from Sabrina Spellman herself in this long-anticipated crossover event.

“We’ve been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since Season 1, so it’s thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our ‘Rivervale’ special event,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said. “It’s also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds — I think fans will, too. It’s really fun and special.”

Aguirre-Sacasa alluded to a Riverdale/Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover during his interview with CBR in September, saying, “Absolutely there’s hope.” He continued, “I think Kiernan is up for it. I think it’s about finding the right story and making the timing work out. I can’t say when but I truly think it will happen.”
