New details out of Warner Bros. confirm that Hogwarts Legacy will launch after Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore releases in 2022.
The eagerly-anticipated Hogwarts Legacy is slated to launch after the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in 2022. Publisher WB Games unveiled Hogwarts Legacy during PlayStation’s September 2020 showcase, unleashing a reveal trailer that ended on a 2021 release window. WB delayed the open-world adventure a few months thereafter, merely promising a nebulous 2022 launch and little else.
Hogwarts Legacy’s only official footage came in the form of the original announcement trailer over a year ago. Despite the hopes of many, it even skipped E3 2021 – as did Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, both of which have since received lengthier looks. No further concrete details have surfaced since then either, leaving the Harry Potter project shrouded in a veil of mystery. When WB Games and developer Avalanche Software plan on lifting the lid remains a mystery, too, though there is one more major gaming event in 2021 that could play host to the Wizarding World-set adventure – The Game Awards.
In a Toy World interview spotted by Twitter user NextGenPlayer, WB’s General Manager, Rachel Wakely, outlined what fans of the Wizard World of Harry Potter can expect in terms of new content throughout 2022. The third Fantastic Beasts film, The Secrets of Dumbledore, will roll out first since it’s slated to release in April, she noted. Wakely then divulged that Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to arrive on an unspecified date after Newt Scamander and company return to the big screen. The Warner Bros. GM didn’t offer much more in the way of specifics.
Wakely’s comments imply Hogwarts Legacy won’t hit store shelves prior to mid-April of next year. Interestingly, this directly contradicts an Nvidia GeForce Now database leak that indicated the title would land on consoles and PC no later than March 8, 2022. As of writing, it appears WB Games still does not have a firm due date in mind.
A precursor to Harry Potter’s time at the famous School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Hogwarts Legacy will take place in the late 1800s. Avalanche previously confirmed that while the narrative and lore remains anchored in J.K. Rowlings’ work, new characters and locales also factor into the experience. Better still, an added bit of agency will also allow players to create and customize their own characters.
