Kaley Cuoco shares her reaction as she receives her first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for The Flight Attendant.
Kaley Cuoco shared the exact moment when she found out she was nominated for her first Emmy for her performance in The Flight Attendant. Cuoco stars in HBO’s dramedy The Flight Attendant as Cassie Bowden, a reckless alcoholic who is thrown into a murder mystery when she wakes up in the same room as a dead man with no recollection of what happened. The Flight Attendant is Cuoco’s first major project after her 12-season stint on The Big Bang Theory as Penny.
While Cuoco shined as Penny in The Big Bang Theory, she was grateful for the show’s end as it gave her a chance to start over. After her decade as Penny, she found a fresh start in the industry when she chose to produce and star in The Flight Attendant. The series has proven very successful and Cuoco is stellar in her role as Bowden, a character who somehow still manages to be likeable despite her sometimes infuriating ineptness and poor decision-making. The show’s success was cemented when it scored a total of 8 Emmy nominations, including Cuoco’s nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series.
Cuoco took to Instagram to share the moment when she learned she received her first Emmy nomination for The Flight Attendant. Her post held two video snippets, the first showing her reaction to her Outstanding Actress nomination and the second her reaction to The Flight Attendant’s Outstanding Comedy Series nomination. The two clips are mostly wordless with Cuoco going from squeals to tears to simply laying her head in her hands from her overwhelming emotions. The only words she can muster are, “I’m so happy right now.” Check out her reaction below:
The reaction was heartwarming to watch, as Cuoco struggled to find words or reactions to express her extreme happiness. What makes it particularly special is that it was Cuoco’s very first Emmy nomination. While The Big Bang Theory received several nods throughout the years, it was the first Emmy nomination solely for Cuoco. Meanwhile, for her acting and producing project to score 9 nominations in its very first season is outstanding. The Flight Attendant’s strong performance in the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations bodes well for its second season and is a testimony to the hard work that Cuoco and the rest of the cast and crew have devoted to the series.
Cuoco has truly grown in the past few years following the end of The Big Bang Theory. Her concerns about not being taken seriously after her long career as Penny proved to be unfounded as she moved seamlessly into her newest project. Meanwhile, she made it an extra challenge by not just acting, but also choosing to aid the show as its producer. Cuoco is a great contender in the comedy industry and her nomination for The Flight Attendant was rightfully earned. Hopefully, The Flight Attendant will garner some wins from its nominations and will keep up the momentum for season 2.
