Daniel Radcliffe Is Right & Wrong About His Harry Potter Reboot Role

If a Harry Potter reboot happened, Daniel Radcliffe would be up to play a Marauder, and while his choices are great, there’s only one he could play.

If a Harry Potter reboot was to happen, fans would love to see the main cast return in some way, and Daniel Radcliffe has an idea of how that can happen for him, and while it’s not a bad idea, there’s a much better one that could make his return fit better with the Wizarding World in general. Magic and wizards are some of the most popular themes in the genre of fantasy, but they became a lot more popular in 1998 when J.K. Rowling introduced readers to the Wizarding World in her debut novel Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone. This was the first entry in a series of seven books, which became a worldwide phenomenon and built a loyal and solid fanbase that continues to this day.

Of course, as happens with many other successful book series, the Harry Potter novels made the jump to the big screen not long after the first book was published, and so the Harry Potter saga was released between 2001 and 2011 (with the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, divided into two). The movie series boosted the careers of its young cast and expanded the books’ fanbase, becoming one of the most popular and profitable franchises in entertainment. Now, in the era of reboots, remakes, and revivals, talks about new Harry Potter material have been floating around, and Daniel Radcliffe would like to be involved in it, though not as the title character anymore.

Harry Potter Spinoff Should Tell The Best Story The Movies Cut

In January 2021, rumors about Warner Bros. developing a Harry Potter TV series for HBO Max began to circulate, but there haven’t been any updates on it. Still, this hasn’t stopped fans from coming up with ideas on which stories should be adapted and which characters’ backstories should be explored, and Daniel Radcliffe knows well who he would like to play in case of a Harry Potter reboot. Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Radcliffe shared that if given the opportunity, he would like to play Sirius Black or Remus Lupin, and while this makes sense, his best option would actually be another Marauder: James Potter.

Radcliffe playing Sirius Black or Remus Lupin in a potential Marauders story would make sense due to the link between Harry Potter and these two characters, who served as his mentors and parent figures, and this bond was stronger thanks to them being his father’s best friends. However, if a Marauders spinoff is to happen and Radcliffe is to be part of it, it would be best for him to play James Potter. The Marauders formed years before Harry’s story began and while the movies showed brief looks at them, their backstory is one that fans would like to see, as there was a strong bond between all of them and they also had a traitor among them. Although Sirius Black and Remus Lupin are great characters and some of the fans’ favorites, Radcliffe will be a better fit to play Harry’s father, and this would make for a smooth transition into his work as The Boy Who Lived in the Harry Potter saga.

It’s important to remember, however, that a Harry Potter reboot isn’t confirmed and is all rumors and speculation, as Warner Bros. hasn’t shed light on it and even the reports about a spinoff HBO Max TV series are considered rumors. Still, it’s heartwarming for Harry Potter fans to know that Daniel Radcliffe is willing to take part in a reboot as one of the saga’s most beloved characters, though he would be a better fit to play the problematic James Potter.
