Riverdale Creator Teases Season 6 With Weird Emojis Including More Aliens

Even though Riverdale season 5 part 2 isn’t set to air until August, the creator of the CW show is already teasing fans about what’s to come in season 6. The mystery teen drama show is a dark interpretation of Archie Comics and has become one of the more successful shows on the network. So far, the first five seasons have followed Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and the gang taking on murders, cults, serial killers, and plenty more mysteries that seem to always plague the town of Riverdale.

The first part of Riverdale season 5 aired in January 2021, after a pandemic-related shutdown caused showrunners to wrap the season 4 storyline earlier than anticipated. This caused the planned seven-year time jump between seasons 4 and 5 to be delayed. Instead, the time jump happened between episodes 3 and 4 of season 5. The Riverdale characters came back to town as teachers at their former high school after losing touch for nearly a decade. Aside from Archie, the full gang includes Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan), and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch).

Part 2 will air on August 11 on The CW, and Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa celebrated the wrap of filming on Instagram. And at the very end of the post, he gave a tiny tease into what fans can expect from season 6. The post caption reads, “Really excited about our next batch of episodes. They’re some of the best we’ve done. And after that, a break. And after that…,” followed by several emojis, including an alien head, a tornado, a fire, and a wedding ring, seemingly teasing what’s to come after season 5 part 2. Check out Aguirre-Sacasa’s full post below:

The photo with the post included the whole Riverdale cast aside from Sprouse, who was noticeably missing. Whether that’s foreshadowing or he just missed the photo is yet to be determined. Considering Aguirre-Sacasa’s previous statement about a “possibly tragic fate of one of our major characters that we’ve known since Season 1,” though, Jughead might be in trouble.

Based on the emoji cluster, season 6 of Riverdale will seemingly show the gang getting themselves into even more trouble. Jughead disappeared in the mid-season finale, leaving only a pool of blood behind, making his absence from Aguirre-Sacasa’s photo even more suspicious, and Betty’s still determined to find Polly and solve the Lonely Highway case, so there’s plenty of material for season 5 part 2 and season 6 to work with. Riverdale fans should not count out a future season that includes alien abductions, natural disasters, and maybe even a wedding.
