Supergirl’s Dreamer Debuts in Stunning New Preview

Supergirl’s Nia Nal appears in comic form for the first time in a newly released preview for Nicole Maine’s Dreamer story in DC Pride #1!

Nia Nal aka Dreamer, an original character from The CW’s Supergirl, just debuted in comic form in a new stunning preview. It sees Dreamer, played by Nicole Maines in the TV show, in action as she continues supering around National City. The Dreamer story, within the upcoming DC Pride anthology series, is written by Maines herself. DC Pride is an anthology series that will shine a light on DC’s roster of LGBTQIA+ characters, made by LGBTQIA+ creators. Along with Dreamer’s transition to the comics, other popular characters like DC’s newest Flash will be returning in their own stories.

Dreamer was introduced in Supergirl Season 4, she is the first transgender superhero on television. As an original creation from Supergirl, Nia has never been featured in any comic book. However, she is a relative to Nura Nal aka Dream Girl, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the comics. With her family being linked to characters from DC Comics, it was only a matter of time before she would make the leap. With Supergirl ending, there has been an outcry for Nia Nal to continue past the show’s finale and this could be the conclusion that fans have been hoping for.

In the preview for the Dreamer segment, titled “Date Night” by Nicole Maines, Rachael Stott, Enrica Eren Angiolini, and Steve Wands, Nia Nal is seen in mid-action as she runs towards her target. The story will presumably be set in the world of The CW’s Supergirl with some possible cameos by some fan-favorite heroes from the show. Maines’ direct involvement, being the sole writer of the project, probably means that she has been given free rein to bring in whatever concepts she likes. Adopting aspects of the world that Nia is from, but translating it into the comics. Check out the preview below:

The preview panel sees Nia suited up in her Dreamer outfit as she runs through National City’s streets. The context around who she is chasing and why she is reading her journal is unclear, but one thing’s certain is that Maines’ issue will not only be about a date night but much more. With the title being “Date Night,” it’s natural to assume that she could be going out with Brainiac 5 aka ‘Brainy’ from Supergirl, using the likeness of Jesse Rath. They are almost always paired together and have been romantically involved throughout most of the time since their first appearances.

The Transgender Pride Flag appears on Nia’s notebook, along with Supergirl’s logo. The flag represents Nia’s community as a proud transgender woman and Supergirl’s logo is featured as she is one of Nia’s best friends and an inspiration to her. Fans can get excited to finally see Supergirl’s Nia Nal in the comics, written by the very actress who plays her, Nicole Maines. One thing’s certain, her Dreamer powers are going to be on full display as she battles her way to date night by using her astral projection, precognition, and whatever potential new powers may arise. DC Pride is an 80-page anthology that releases on June 8.
