Could you imagine if Taylor Swift and Katy Perry worked together? Well, Perry has planted the idea in fans’ heads.
During American Idol’s Hollywood Week duets episode on Monday (March 22), contestants Camille Lamb and Althea Grace had to put the “weird tension” they addressed earlier on the back burner and fire up their vocals for their performance of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me.”
But for the “Firework” singer, it felt like she was looking back at her younger self when she and Swift used to have bad blood. “You guys are both on the same team,” the 36-year-old pop star told the two singers, who eventually made it to the next round. “Don’t forget about that.
She later huddled up her fellow Idol judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan to reflect on what Perry and the fellow pop superstar could do after finally putting their feud to rest.
Can you imagine, if Taylor and I worked together, what we could do?” she whispered with a smile, Bryan nodding his head.
The two women ended their longstanding feud in 2019 when Perry made a surprise cameo in the “You Need to Calm Down” music video during Swift’s Lover era. In May 2020, Perry hinted at their possible collab, which was rumored to be on her fifth album Daisies, ahead of her Idol performance of the title track. But Perry subsequently shut the rumor down and noted she was “always open” for an opportunity in the future. And she’s not the only one open to the idea.
The Swifties and KatyCats have been living in a teenage dream, contemplating whether Perry would be on Swift’s re-recorded version of 1989’s “Bad Blood,” which was speculated to be about the “Daisies” singer. Or if Swift’s recent cuddly pictures with Selena Gomez and her cat could potentially mean Gomez will be added to the mix for a pop trifecta.
